A Talk by the Head of the GIS Unit of DEC

This is rather late notice, but GEOS426 students who are interested are invited to attend a talk by Ron Avery (Head, GIS Major Programs Unit) of the Department of Environment and Conservation. The talk will take place tomorrow at 2pm at the Hurstville DEC offices. You must talk to Carol about this if you wish to attend.

The Progress Report for the Individual Project

The due date for the progress report was set as Thursday 13 April, but this is not likely to give good outcomes, because you will not receive feedback on your project proposal until 6 April, so you will have little time to reflect on the feedback and maybe adjust your work.

We have decided to move the due date to Wednesday April 26th, to enable more progress to be made. This date is in the final week of the semester break. At least one class member will be on a field trip for another course, but it is always possible to submit an assignment early. We prefer hardcopy for assignments, but if coming to campus during the break is not possible, we will accept the progress report by email.

I will email feedback comments to students who may have limited time to prepare a progress report.

The reorganised program for Week 5 and 6

Mike and I have agreed to the following change to the program for weeks 5 and 6.

Week 5 2pm to 3:25pm MapInfo
(MP)
3:35pm to 5pm Geostatistical Analysis (CJ)
Week 6 2pm to 3pm Research Agenda (CJ) 3pm to 4pm MultiCriteria evaluation (CJ) 4pm to 5pm Research Agenda (MP)

Week 7 will be available for Application Area work, Software skills work and project work (or holidaying in Queensland for some!).

An incorrect date in the course outline

Rhae has found an error in a date in the course outline.
The due date for the application area presentation is 11 May 2006 (see page 8).
(On page 5, it is said to be 4 May, this is incorrect.)

This Website

Some of the issues with the website have now been resolved and material on the website will be progressively updated starting from now (Thursday am). The first updated material will be some additional scripting material and some course documents.

The password protected area is now working I will email you the password.

Program for the Project Presentations 9 June 2005

Program 05

In the past it has not been necessary to penalise students in this course for late assignments. Most final year students have developed time management skills, and most academics believe that 24 or 48 hours is not important in final year assignments

However, work in this course must be submitted regularly, and

A lateness penalty will apply to any student who hands in more than one piece of work, more than one day late.

Students who have problems beyond their control, must provide the usual documentary evidence (doctors' certificates, etc.) and negotiate acceptable extension dates.
