about

In this unit students seeking a career in resource mangement will consider the social, political, economic and cultural consequences of resource management decisions and be equipped with conceptual and practical skills to do this.

The unit addresses both Australian and international examples of place based conflicts of resource mangement to develop a critical human geographical perspective on resource geopolitics at multiple scales. The experience of indigenous peoples in the operation of industrial resource management systems provides the entry point and unifying theme for the unit. This focus requires students to consider ethical and practical issues as well as the technical aspects of resource management.

Topics covered include Social Impact Assessment, use of case studies and policy processess. There is ample scope for students to pursue personal interests in a specific resource management situation in this unit.
