Welcome to the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Macquarie University. The Department offers career oriented undergraduate and postgraduate courses that include Geology, Geophysics or Palaeontology.

Courses and research topics examine the way the Earth and other planets work and how they have evolved over billions of years.

If you are interested in the way the earth works, environment issues, volcanoes, natural hazards, searching for future resources, fossils or minerals and enjoy field excursions then Earth and Planetary Sciences has many course options that will interest you.

Offering a world class research environment with state of the art facilities the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences hosts several important centres: ARC National Key Centre for Geochemical Evolution and Metallogeny of Continents (GEMOC), the Macquarie University Centre for Ecostratigraphy and Palaeobiology (MUCEP) and the Uranium Series Research Group (USRG).

The Department offers a full range of Undergraduate units, studies can be intergrated with many other disciplines including biology, archaeology, history, chemistry, maths, human geography, physical geography, physics, economics or law.

There are comprehensive Masters and PhD programs and the Department is a member of the Sydney Universities Consortium of Geology and Geophysics (SUCOGG) that offers a wide range of Honours courses to students.
