David Durney (MSc, PhD Lond., DIC) is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Macquarie University, Sydney.

David's teaching and research interests include structural geology, rock mechanics and geological mapping. He has recently been investigating digital methods of structural and geological mapping (including structural databases, stereodigitizing, GIS and use of airbourne radiometric data); the use of cleavage, stylolites, veins, striations and pressure-shadows for determining structural history; thrust mechanics; and modelling of microscale mass transfer. The main focus for recent field studies has been the South Coast and Central West of New South Wales, and northeast Spain.

Some current activities in the areas of structural geology and geological mapping are:

  1. Book Review:
Ramsay & Lisle, The techniques of modern structural geology, Volume 3: Applications of continuum mechanics in structural geology, Academic Press, 2000.

  2. Mapping projects

Geological mapping projects suitable for BSc Honours study

  3. Publications (to be added)

David teaches in first, second, third and Honours/Postgraduate year units including:
