LAVA - Learned Australasian Volcanologists Association

 



LAVA is a specialist group in volcanology under the auspices of the Geological Society of Australia. Our inaugural meeting was held on Tuesday July 7th, 1998 at the Australian Geological Convention in Townsville.

Our logo: Leanne McMahon has used the colours of the Australian interior in the design of the logo. It is in the style of Aboriginal art, and depicts the contrast between a modern volcano and ancient volcanic rocks (pillow lavas, surge deposits, and columnar jointing) exposed in an escarpment.
