General Sites
Describes itself as the premier directory of links to industry sites.
A directory of web sites for Australian businesses, industry associations,
newspapers and government departments. There are listings of, for example,
automotive companies, banks and financial institutions, and tourism bodies.
Describes itself as the ultimate source for company information. Some of
the site is freely available, some only to subscribers, but it has lists
of web sites of many of the world's major companies.
Maintained by Michigan State University, this site has links to business
periodicals and journals, company and industry-specific lists, statistical
data sources, government reports and the like.
While oriented towards the needs of economists, there is much material
of use to economic geographers on this huge site.
One of the world's most comprehensive listings of online economic information.
Newspapers With a Business Focus
Agriculture
Maintained by the Department of Primary Industry and Energy, this site
provides comprehensive lists of organisations, businesses and topics relating
to agriculture.
Contains lengthy lists of links to organisations with agricultural connections,
mainly Australian but with some useful overseas links.
ABARE is a major focus of economic research on agriculture, forests and
energy in Australia, and produces numerous statistical series.
Contains a huge resource of material on agricultural trade and production,
with access to statistical data, news services, trade associations etc.
Contains material on agriculture, forests, fisheries, nutrition and sustainable
development. Gives access to a large global database with information on
agricultural production in over 200 countries since 1961.
Forestry and Forest Products Industry: Timber and Paper Products
'This web site is intended to give users up-to-date information on how
New South Wales' State forests are managed for the benefit of the community.'
It is quite recently established (mid 1996).
This site contains much useful factual information on Australia's forests
and forest products industries. There are useful statistical collections,
maps, press releases and material addressed towards schools.
Contains many useful links on forestry, timber products, pulp and paper
manufacturing, the companies involved and university and research sites.
A worldwide listing of industry companies, equipment suppliers and the
like.
Contains a large statistical database on global forest resources and much
other information on forests and forest products industries.
Manufacturing
Maintained by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this site contains
brief information about Australian manufacturing industry.
This is the company's home page. A Yahoo search found 58,000 WWW references
to BHP.
Ford's international home page. Contains a wide range of economic, financial,
technical and historical information.
Banking and Finance
Contains links to several of Australia's major banks and financial institutions.
Material is organised in the following categories: Guides and General Information,
Banks of the World, Supervising and Deposit Insurance, Academic Research
on Banking, Banking and Finance in Electronic Media, Law and Banking, and
Miscellaneous. The second section contains a large number of links to individual
banks.
