Kate Lloyd teaches in the fields of Asia-Pacific geography and development geography. Her research is focused on transitional countries in Asia particularly on Vietnam's transition from a command economy to a socialist market economy. Her other main interest involves international tourism as a development strategy and its role in informing socio-economic change in developing countries. She is an Associate of the Australian Mekong Resource Center and is currently undertaking research on ecotourism development in Lao PDR. Upcoming research focuses on a project titled "Australia's Northern Borderlands: tourism, governance and security" with Dr. Sandie Suchet-Pearson.
