Sandie Suchet-Pearson's teaching and research focuses on indigenous peoples' rights and environmental management. Drawing on research looking at how indigenous people are asserting their rights in wildlife management in Australia, Canada and southern Africa, she is currently researching how indigenous communities use university research and education resources in setting an agenda for self-determination. Her teaching in the resource and environmental management program draws directly on this action-oriented research and is constantly dealing with issues of power and knowledge. Sandie's work also tackles issues of colonisation and postcolonialism, and perceptions of the environment, culture and nature.
