Head of Department's Welcome

The Department of Human Geography is part of Macquarie University's Division of Environmental & Life Sciences - one of the most lively, dedicated and exciting parts of the campus. We are proudly student-centered, dedicated to innovative and effective teaching informed by strong research. Whether you are visiting the Human Geography website as current or prospective student, a colleague, someone looking for advice or support, or merely a curious onlooker, I welcome you and hope that you find at least some of what you're looking for. We'd certainly appreciate feedback on the site from visitors to improve it.
We think geography matters in many ways - and we hope that studying, visiting or drawing on our expertise in Human Geography at Macquarie will open up new ideas, new challenges, new opportunities. In fact, we're sure it will - and the Department's web pages should help you to find the information, connections and even ideas that might help.
For students, our web pages offer access to information about units, fieldwork, study pathways and degree programs, and information resources relevant for work from HSC to postgraduate levels.
Our research activities reflect our active involvement in globalization and economic development, urban social geography, population studies and medical geography, resource and environmental management, cultural geographies, geographical education, and applications of geographical information systems. We welcome academic visitors in these fields and Macquarie makes a terrific Australian base for international visitors on sabbatical.
So, it's a great pleasure to welcome you to the Department, and to encourage you to spend a little time getting to know us.
