Professor Pitman is affiliated with the Atmospheric Science group in the Department of Physical Geography, Division of Environmental and Life Sciences. His research interests include climate modelling and climate change with a particular focus on how the Earth's surface interacts with the atmosphere. This requires the mathematical modelling of the flow of heat and water through the soil and vegetation, but also requires the generation and use of global data sets and surface characteristics. He collaborates with the Bureau of Meteorology and some of the major research groups in Europe and the USA. More detail can be found by following these links:
