Carol Jacobson - Research
Recent projects in which I, and research students working with me have been involved, include:
- investigation of the use of remotely sensed data to predict vegetation communities, leaf litter and thence bushfire potential,
- use of GIS data layers to support risk decision making relevant to bushfire potential,
- investigation of the use of DTM data to automate mapping of landforms such as plateaux, escarpments, foothills, etc.,
- investigation of the use of DTM data to estimate accumulated stream flow and to predict flood potential at specific locations,
- use of GIS as a predictive tool for vegetation recovery after fires.
From time to time, I do consulting work in the field of GIS. Some projects have included:
- assessment of the infrastructure of the energy supply and telecommunications industries for the Sydney Catchment Authority;
- and a role in other projects such as a survey of derelict mines.
