Dr. Kevin Cheung joined Macquarie University as a senior lecturer in the Climate Risk Concentration of Research Excellence (CORE) and Environmental Science (previously known as the Department of Physical Geography) in February 2008. Cheung ’s educational background was in physics and then he turned to atmospheric sciences and finished a Ph.D. dissertation on tropical cyclone forecasting at the City University of Hong Kong in 1999. With support from the Croucher Foundation, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Meteorology Department of Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California for two years and then promoted to research assistant professor. In 2004 Cheung joined the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction of Taiwan where he extended his experience to natural hazard research as well as operational mitigation.
