I am an environmental scientist with a specialisation in fluvial geomorphology. In 1995 I completed an honours degree on the sedimentology and evolution of alluvial valley fills in Wolumla Creek, South Coast, NSW. I then worked for 3 years as a Research Officer developing the River Styles® Framework and short course (see www.riverstyles.com). I completed my PhD in 2001. My PhD focussed on the development and application of a framework for assessing geomorphic river condition and recovery potential. This PhD encompasses contemporary river processes, river management, sediment budgets and antecedent controls on river character and behaviour. In 2002 I commenced an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship researching river sensitivity and landscape (dis)connectivity. During this time I also worked as part of an interdisciplinary team examining the biophysical responses of the upper Hunter River to a range of river rehabilitation practices. I am currently a Lecturer in the Department.
