4 postgraduate credit points
Professor Talent, Assoc, Prof. Mawson
Offered: X2, Prereq. GEOS 821 or equivalent. A project/assignment-oriented unit based on the solving of a series of geological problems in the field and/or laboratory; these may include topics in the philosophy of science relating to the earth sciences. Topics will be designed according to student background and program of study.

GEOS 414* Ore Deposits Field Work
2 postgraduate credit points
Dr Lusk
Offered: V2, Prereq. GEOS 304 or GEOS 390, Field work dates to be announced. A variety of ore deposits located within an 800 km radius of Sydney will be visited during a 6-8 day field trip. Students will be assessed mainly on the basis of a report to be submitted shortly after completion of the unit. Entry to the unit may be restricted and preference will be given to those who performed well in GEOS 304.

GEOS 415* Data Image Processing in Geophysics and Mining
3 postgraduate credit points
Dr Lackie
Offered: D2, Prereq. 40 cps in science including 3 cp in computing. This unit is aimed at giving familiarity with a variety of computer software packages that are currently being used by mining and exploration companies. The unit will be more an applied than theoretical offering.
