The Division's geography staff are actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision, as well as staff research projects in climatology/meteorology, geomorphology, pedology, resource and environmental management and most aspects of human geography. The current major research thrusts are in the fields of metropolitan change, geography of economic restructuring, social, demographic, health and electoral analysis, Aboriginal resource use and community development, landslides, natural hazards, climatic impacts, air pollution and boundary layer meteorology.
The federally funded Climatic Impacts Centre is located within the Division and involves both physical and human geographers. The centre is an international affiliate of the USA's University Corporation for Atmospheric Research and has close links with the National Centre in Boulder, Colorado. The Natural Hazards Research Centre is also located within the Division and provides quality research on natural hazards such as earthquakes and cyclones in the Australian-Pacific region.
