Postgraduate Studies in Environmental & Life Sciences

The Division of Environmental & Life Sciences offers a wide range of postgraduate research and coursework programs of study in environmental sciences, geography, geology, geophysics and mining. It provides excellent facilities for research, and for integrating research, in both the physically based and the socially based earth sciences. It may also be possible to arrange courses involving some units of study or co-supervision in other disciplines and other Divisions of the University. Some 104 postgraduate students are currently enrolled in the Division of Environmental & Life Sciences.

The Division provides a comprehensive range of support facilities as indicated in the Postgraduate Handbook and both adequate working space and communications technology are available. It is however advisable prior to commencing a thesis topic that an overall costing of the project be made and the source(s) of funding to meet those costs be very clearly established to avoid problems at a later stage.

Many of the courses can be taken by either full-time or part-time (including external) study. Rules for the degrees and diplomas are given in the University Calendar. The salient requirements are summarised in the booklets Macquarie University Postgraduate Courses, Science Postgraduate Studies, and the International Students Guide, which are available from the Postgraduate Studies Office and the International Student Office.

Postgraduate research and coursework degrees are offered in the following disciplines:

All research degrees may contain units of coursework but these do not form any part of the final assessment.
